PGD in Natural Resources and Governance is a one-year programme that develops your understanding of nature- society interactions and its interface with natural resources, policy institutions, and community practices. It prepares you to:

  • Appreciate the varieties of interaction among actors in complex socio-ecological systems
  • Study policy institutions and processes to design policy architecture for sustainability transition
  • Engage with diverse policy settings for problem solving in the context of resources and sustainability governance
  • Evaluate policy impact through micro and big data and qualitative field insights for designing robust institutions

Overview of the Programme

The PG Diploma programme is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme involves innovative pedagogy with 5-6 weeks of field based experiential learning spread across two semesters to train students on the field-based assessments, policy analysis, and institutional design.

This programme helps you understand natural resources in rich and diverse ways. It introduces you to the various issues and problems around natural resource control, use, generation of waste and the different costs involved in these processes. As a result, you develop the nuances of policy and practice – a frame broadly of the management and governance of natural resources.

In the programme

  • You understand the institutional structures concerning natural resources at the micro and macro level (local, state, national, international).
  • You develop insights into the policies, data, issues and challenges in the context of global south.
  • You evolve as a professional who partake in strategic organizational efforts in managing natural resources towards resilience and sustainability

Collaborative Programme Development & Delivery

The programme is offered in collaboration with the Foundation for Ecological Security, an internationally acclaimed organization in the field of restoring commons, working with communities and strengthening sustainable livelihoods. 

Key Proficiencies:

  • Conceptual grounding on the sustainability and resilience issues
  • Ability to undertake incisive policy analysis based on sound understanding on policy institutions, resource systems and community interfaces
  • Familiarity with nature and functioning of the institutions for resource governance
  • Agility with big and micro data for analysing impact of policies pertaining to natural resources
  • Ability to undertake social and ecological monitoring
  • Theoretical soundness and analytical skills for policy implementation

These skills will be used by you while working in specialized professional settings of repute.
