Program Overview

The Post Graduate Diploma in Supervision for Mental Health Practice offers a comprehensive and contextually sensitive perspective on the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to undertake the role of a supervisor for mental health professionals in India.  It provides a foundation to support mental health professionals in developing key competencies in supervision. The aim of this training curriculum is to enable qualified psychotherapists to acquire the knowledge and competencies and reflective capacities required to practice as supervisors in line with evidence-based practice. The program will enable professionals to obtain formal training and certification in supervision and become part of a professional network of supervisors. The program is focused on experiential learning and the acquisition of key skills for trained psychotherapists and counsellors who wish to expand the purview of their skills and supervise other mental health professionals.

Objectives of the Program

  • To develop a strong theoretical base in supervision practice through critical engagement with major theories and models of supervision
  • To develop a contextually sensitive lens with an emphasis on social justice in counselling and supervision in India
  • To promote reflection and awareness of one’s own supervisory style and identify assumptions influencing one’s stance as a supervisor
  • To enhance competencies in providing developmentally tailored supervision to individuals across various stages of development and learning styles
  • To enhance relational capacities required to foster a strong supervisory alliance
  • To develop skills in using major techniques and methods of supervision
  • To create a supervisory space that is in keeping with ethical codes and principles.
  • To integrate theoretical knowledge with experiential learning through ‘supervision of supervision’
