School of Skill Education (SSE)

The School of Skill Education (SSE) was set up by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in December 2011 to impart skill education to millions of youth in India by training/skilling them in core industry relevant job competencies through appropriately designed (market oriented) Skill educational programmes with the vision to create sustainable sources of income that would promote better employability, better livelihood, a brighter future and subsequently contribute to the economy of the nation.

Each of the Bachelor’s programmes offered is a direct outcome of India’s recognition of the importance of skilling the youth to meet the industrial demands for skilled workforce. The work integrated programmes incorporate the skill sector specific job roles and their corresponding National Occupational Standards (NOS). The curriculum focuses on a holistic education that integrates general knowledge, Skill knowledge and job-specific skills through a combination of classroom sessions (for general education and domain knowledge) and practical skill training. The on-the-job training (OJT) is conducted at the real shop floor of the active/leading industries and companies. The internship embedded ‘work while you learn’ skill training carried out at our Knowledge Partners for Skill Training Centres, pan India provides the students a meaningful experience and the opportunity to earn a modest stipend in selected skill sectors by fulfilling the required terms and conditions.
