PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

  • Understanding the relationship between law and society is essential for the welfare of society in a democratic society. As a democratic country, India has a responsibility to establish such a relationship between law and society, in which legislation and policy-making truly serve the needs of society. This duty places equitable access to justice on the shoulders of the four pillars of Indian democracy: the legislature, the executive, the judiciary, and the Media as the fourth estate. The course caters to such needs of promoting access to justice. As a result, the importance of providing equal access to justice has been emphasised through an interdisciplinary LLM course at TISS. All four pillars of the Indian democratic system have firmly fought for equal access to justice, but much more remains to be done. The majority of the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society are still unaware of their basic rights and the safeguards in place to remove barriers to access to justice. As a result, it is critical for sensitising lawyers and individuals to promote the legal dimensions of equitable access to justice. The course covers the socio-economic and political realms and current developments in the transition and transformation of the nation.
  • The Access to Justice course has been designed specifically to provide not only an overview of the Indian justice system, but also to cover global aspects of justice, in-depth knowledge about basic rights promoting equal access to justice, modes of realization of such rights, remedies for infringements, and other related important issues. First Semester foundation courses Law and Justice in the Globalized World, Law Justice, and Development, and Comparative Constitutional Law demonstrated global and regional importance with many case illustrations.
  • The LLM in Access to Justice offers a unique learning experience from the fieldwork and thematic dissertation that will equip them with the necessary knowledge to deliver the promotion of access to justice for the marginalised It includes perspectives on professional practice and some also include experiential learning activities, such as analysis of real-life situations and case studies. These activities are designed to consolidate the understanding of key theoretical concepts by putting them into practice in real-world contexts and to give them practical experience with documents, drafting skills, and analytical frameworks used in a professional environment. Law is crucial for promoting protecting and applying the notion of justice at international, regional, and domestic levels. This LLM will give them an advanced understanding of justice legal education and basic rights and how it is implemented. Focus on areas that are at the forefront of marginalized rights and utilize academic knowledge to contribute to the progressive development of the nation vis-à-vis relevant socio-legal education.
