Description

The Master of Arts in Social Work in Public Health program addresses the complex dimensions of health within an evolving political, social, and economic landscape. The program equips social work professionals with the skills to analyze and respond to health issues at micro, meso, and macro levels.

Public health social workers are uniquely positioned to intervene at individual, group, community, and policy levels. At the individual level, they engage in preventive, promotive, and restorative practices, providing psychosocial support through counselling and empowerment strategies. At the community level, they design, implement, and manage health initiatives that foster community involvement and engagement with the health system. Their specialized knowledge enables them to develop evidence-based, context-specific, and resource-sensitive interventions, driving social change. Additionally, public health social workers shape policy, advocate for equitable healthcare, and promote universal access to health services.

The Master of Arts in Social Work (Public Health) aims to bridge gaps in India's health workforce by advancing training, research, and policy development within a rights-based framework. The program prepares public health professionals to effectively work with socially, culturally, and economically diverse populations, focusing on vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. It emphasizes leadership development, epidemiology, research, program management, monitoring and evaluation, and effective health advocacy communication. Graduates will be equipped to work across various settings, including clinical and community health spaces, NGOs, research institutions, social movements, and specialized fields such as palliative care, geriatric social work, climate change, and humanitarian emergencies.
