DESIGN OF THE PROGRAMME
In the first year of the program, students will receive extensive training in public policy and governance at the School of Public Policy and Governance, located at the Hyderabad Campus of TISS. The second year will take place at the School of Law, Rights, and Constitutional Governance at TISS Mumbai, where students will gain a multifaceted understanding of legal education, focusing on the intersections of legislation, law, and public policy.
Students admitted to the program with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree to the integrated post graduate programme will be awarded, upon successful completion: a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Governance and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Law and Social Policy.
Students admitted to the programme with an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than a Master of Laws (LLB) will be awarded a degree in Master of Arts upon successful completion.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The dual degree program in Public Policy and Law, with its multidisciplinary focus, aims to develop a group of professionals with the competency to navigate the institutional and legal aspects of public and social policy. This training is designed to foster expertise in promoting equitable, gender-just, and sustainable societies. It equips students with competencies and skillsets to:
Familiarise students with the policy architecture, legal frameworks, regulatory designs, and govern policies in India and other countries in the global south.
Evaluate policy impact through micro and big data and qualitative field insights
Comprehend constitutional and legal provisions, social texts, policy documents, court judgements, legislations, international legal instruments, and other official documents.
Enables students to advocate for the legal rights of underprivileged and marginalised individuals and offers skillsets for pursuing legal studies and engaging in legal advocacy.
Enhances the capacity to do socio-legal research/public policy research utilising suitable research methodologies.
Undertake experiential learning through Capstone Projects/ Clinical Legal Internship/Fieldwork.
