Description
Summary of the Program
Water Policies and Governance is an interdisciplinary programme that discusses the different aspects of water, including social, economic, political, policy, and governance. It is essential, considering the current scenario of growing water scarcity and inequitable distribution, to accommodate the different aspects of water. Simultaneously, the rationale for having a dedicated intensive water policy and governance programme stems from a list of critical concerns. First, the increasing global and local depletion of water resources leads to water scarcity scenarios in India's urban and rural settings. Second, the eroding quality of the available water sources affects the health of urban and rural populations. Third, there is an absence of a trained class of water professionals with the required knowledge and skills to address the issues in the sector. Fourth, to fill in the knowledge gap in the industry by conducting studies accommodating the diverse realities in the water sector. Fifth, there is increasing engagement with the communities in managing the resources through intensive fieldwork. In light of the above factors, the Centre for Water Policy and Governance was started to provide a broad exposure to different dimensions of water and build a class of professionals and practitioners to work in the sector.
